Old treasury warrants from the Virginia Land Office, October 15, 1779- October 17, 1783.

These warrants were issued by the Register of the Land Office after notification by the auditor that the set fee had been paid into the commonwealth's treasury. The warrant then authorized any county surveyor to survey the number of acres specified for the individual named in the warrant. These warrants were usually filed with the final survey to which they applied, but this set of warrants was kept separately. It is possible that these warrants were returned later than the related surveys and were never interfiled, or that they were returned for exchange because of an error.
